Ben Gurion Airport Line
A new railway line to Ben Gurion Airport, this is the company’s most challenging and problematic line from an engineering point of view. The line is about 8 km long and it starts at Ganot Junction all the way to the new Ben Gurion Airport.
The line route passes through a CUT & COVER tunnel beneath Route no. 1 and continues in an open tunnel up to the station at Ben Gurion Airport. The station was built at the bottom of the central building.
The project value is about 110 million US dollars and includes earth and concrete works, in particularly large scopes (quarrying works of about 1,100,000 m\cu, drilling of about 8,000 piles and 170,000 m\cu of concrete.
During the works, the Ayalon river was redirected to a new route, and a bridge extending about 200 m was built over it. In order to complete the line, the project staff had to overcome many hurdles, including the shifting of existing water infrastructures (Mekorot-Israel’s national water company), Bezeq, Electric Company, drainage infrastructures, etc.
